Book
In his debut book “Who Am I Without a Mirror?” releasing on July 27th, Jarred wrestles and examines, through the mechanics of poetry, all the internal intersections that make him essentially HIM: Love, justice-seeking, and faith, amongst others. Alas, closely accompanied by this rigorous digging come questions, questions of the invasive variety. Questions that for far too long and for far too often have gone unresolved. Although not perfect, through the process of shaping this book he has begun to recognize that the answers to the most internal questions are not discovered on paths to enlightenment or through miraculous encounters, but rather realized — A realization that only comes from spending time with our local mirrors. Leave it to the honorable James Baldwin to poignantly write, “It is astonishing the lengths to which a person, or a people, will go in order to avoid a truthful mirror.”
Gift a book 2 the Youth — This is part of Jarred’s ongoing commitment, which is to support youth without financial burden. Apart from his constant orbiting around youth programs, he is currently preparing to launch a poetry club this fall at the high school he teaches at. There is a resurgence of youth poets coming our way. This poetry club is one example of where your generosity will land; not only placing books in young people’s hands, but books whose author looks like them.
